In 2024, I made my first trip to Havana, Cuba, and the experience left a mark on me that I’ll carry forever. The city wrapped me in its charm — the rhythm of street music drifting through narrow alleys, the kaleidoscope of classic cars shining in the sun, the scent of food cooked with love, and the warmth of the Cuban people. I wandered through markets, admired the arts, drank countless mojitos, and walked the Malecón as waves crashed against the seawall. I also visited Hemingway’s Havana home and sat at the same bars where he once lingered, and it felt like time had folded in on itself. Havana was alive in every sense, and I found myself falling in love with both the city and its spirit.
The song Havana Nights grew from that personal connection but also became a story larger than my own. At its heart, the song is about a love that blossoms in a single night — intoxicating, passionate, unforgettable — yet destined to slip away with the sunrise. The chorus phrase, “el amor que viene y va”, translates to “the love that comes and goes.” That line captures both the fleeting embrace of a Cuban night and the way love sometimes exists only for a moment, however eternal it may feel in your heart.
For me, this song weaves together the romance of Havana’s music, colors, and people, with my own story of falling in love with Havana. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t always last forever — sometimes it’s meant to be savored in the moment, leaving behind memories that burn as brightly as the Havana stars.
